My On-line Legacy

What will my online legacy be? When I think of legacy, I think  "gift" and if that is in fact,  online legacytrue --I want what I write and post to be something of value, significance and help to those who receive (read) my posts and comments.

With that in mind,  I must consider

  •  Who am I writing for?
  • What do I want to "give" them?

Who am I writing for?
Obviously, there are different "groups" that read my posts and the gifts (legacy) that I want to leave them may not be the same.

1. Family
- My little one,  Mom and Dad, Grannie, brother and his family as well as extended family and friends.  I have written about all of them at one time or another.   They are all very important to me and my relationships with them are what have made me who I am today.

The legacy (gift)   that I hope to leave online for my Family is

"Pride" - I want my family to read my posts and comments and see that I attempted to cooperate, support, share and show compassion while upholding our family's values of honesty, compassion, sincerity and integrity.

2.  Community - My neighbors, fellow church members, fellow Realtors and professionals with whom I work --these are some in my community who read my post and to whom I hope to leave a gift (legacy).

The gift (legacy) I want to leave the Community is

"
Trust" - I want my Community to learn through my posts as well as from my service in and for the community that they can trust me to provide them with accurate information, represent them fairly and honestly and always treat them with respect.

3.  Consumers - The military relocating to Camp LeJeune Marine base, the retired couple looking for a warmer climate and slower pace,  the family who has been relocated to Onslow County N C or those whom I've never met but are searching online for information -  I wish to leave a gift for them too.

The legacy (gift)  I hope to leave for the Consumer is

"Accurate Information" - I want Consumers to know that when they read my posts and reports that the information I provide-- whether is be a listing, a market report or an interview with a local business--is accurate and reliable.  I want them to realize that they can come to me when they want or need any type of real estate related information, facts on the local economy or general information on the Onslow County NC area.

4.  ActiveRain Community - This wonderful community that has given me so much support, encouragement and care--- to it I wish to leave a gift (legacy) of
  • time, knowledge and experience
  • support and encouragement to fellow members
  • cooperation
  • sense of humor
  • honesty, integrity and respect
  • friendship

I do understand and always try to keep in mind that anything I post on-line will stay in cyberspace forever and be there for any and everybody to read for all eternity.

So, family, community, consumers and AR community--I'll keep striving to write so that you will have pride, trust and accurate information as I endeavor to share, support and encourage with a sense of humor and always with honesty, integrity and respect.

Support Swansboro High School Band When You Buy Groceries

Swansboro High School  Supporting our local schools and its programs and activities is our   responsibility as parents and citizens.  There are many ways we can do this--

  • contributions

  • volunteering our time and resources

  • attendance at functions, game and activities

  • encouraging students, teachers and all those who work in the schools, programs and activities

All these are wonderful ways to support our schools and students but what if you could help support the local high school band and it would not cost you any extra money or time?  How great would that be?

Swansboro High School Band  It is true, you can!   Every time you buy groceries you can help the   Swansboro High School Band Boosters.

                          (band practice)

The program is called LionShop and Share.  When you shop at Food Lion and use your MVP card a portion of your grocery bill will be donated to the Swansboro Bank Boosters.

Here is what you must do to participate:

  • If you do not have a Food Lion MVP card, pick up a registration card at Food Lion.

  •  Once you have a MVP card go to the website (make sure pop-up blocker is turned off)

  • Next click on "Register your MVP card"

  • Click "Select an Organization"

  • In the pop-up, click on  "NC", "Swansboro" and "Swansboro High School Band Boosters"

  • Click "OK" and "Add MVP cards"

  • Fill in all registration information

  • Click "Next"

"C" is a Dell Laptop Problem

Blogging is taking more time than usual for me these days.  The problem   is "c" or more precisely the "c key" on my computer.  I'm a Dell laptop problempretty darn good typist and usually zip right along but  "c" is  giving me fits and costing (there it is again) me time and aggravation.

My laptop is a Dell Latitude D505 which I bought in 2005.  Overall, I've been very pleased with it and the  support  I've received from Dell.  The only problem I've ever had is with the keyboard, specifically the "c" cap pops off.
Dell Latitude D505 problem
When it first began, it only happened occ asionally.  I would put it back on and was back in business.  Then it became more and more frequent.

I contacted Dell and they replaced the keyboard, twice in fact from 2005-2007.         The new keyboards worked for a while and then it would start again.

Fast forward to 2008 and I'm having the same "c" problem. It is now to the point that the cap just will not stay on and getting the "c" to work requires a very deliberate pressing of the key sometimes as many as 4-5 times to get it to type.

Do you know how many times the "c" key is used?  I did not.... prior to having this problem, believe me I now try to avoid "c" and think of alternatives to words containing this culprit.

I went online with a Dell support online chat only to be told since my laptop it out of warranty they will not replace the keyboard again.

Determined not to be denied, I made a telephone call and spoke with a customer support representative who was very sympathetic but told me they would not be able to help me.  I insisted that she talk with a supervisor which she did and reported back that due to the fact that my warranty had expired, they would not replace the keyboard again.

I've not given up but for the time being, words containing  "c" are my enemy.

Any advice?

Cynthia

Swansboro NC Dog Wash - Yes, You Read That Right!

Summer is officially over but for those of us who live in Swansboro, Hubert, Camp LeJeune or surronding areas in Onslow County, NC  on the coast of Eastern North Carolina;  this is a time of the year we always look forward to.

Our weather is still warm and the beaches are beautiful and uncrowded.  The nights are cooler, some of the humidity is gone and the water seems more clear and a deeper shade of blue.  .  Does it get any better than that?  I think  not!

So it is off to the beach we go.  It's a great time to take our dogs to the beach
Swansboro NC dog on beachwhere they can run and play in the water.  What a fun day for us as well as our dogs.  But there is always a price to pay, right?  The down side to this is a wet, sandy and salty dog!  What to do?

I have the answer! Take your dog to the "Swansboro Express Care Dog Wash" of course!  It is located on Corbett Avenue so you can't miss it.   This is the perfect solution.  The dog wash is a convenient, easy and efficient way to wash away the sand and salt and take home a clean, happy dog. Dog Wash - Swansboro NC

Of course while you are there, you need to wash the sand and salt off your car too and perhaps get a lube and oil change.

Oh, I almost forgot..... if you are looking to buy or sell real estate in Swansboro, Hubert, Richlands, Jacksonville or any area of Onslow County, I would love to hear from you.

Via Lenn Harley:

MILITARY RELOCATION IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA, Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), challenges Virginia citizens and government to make a commitment to help our active duty military and civilian individuals and families make reassignment as smooth as possible.  The 2005 BRAC report recommends nearly 26,000 military, federal civilian, and private embedded contractor jobs to be relocated to Fort Belvoir and Quantico. Of these jobs, 23,470 or 90 percent will be relocated to Fort Belvoir alone, while Quantico will absorb 2,658 jobs.

HOUSING IS THE FIRST NEED.  Locations for personnel relocation include the need for information about not only housing, but also schools, shopping, transportation alternatives, local municipal services and recreation.  The first need for military relocation is housing.  On base housing is often limited so relocating usually means that the family must locate a home that suits their family size and local needs, schools, transportation and more.

NEW HIGHER VA LOAN LIMIT.  The Veterans Administrationhas raised the loan limit for eligible home buyers, military and civilian, to $729,000 through December 31, 2008.  Most of Northern Virginia qualify for the highest loan limit; Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Loudoun, Prince William, Spotsylvania, Stafford all qualify.  The new higher limit is set to expire end 2008.  Further announcement will be published by Homefinders.com when received.
